VS10 support

Jun 6, 2010 at 2:18 PM

Support for Visual Studio 2010 would be really great. I don't know how much work that represents though.

Any progress on AsmHighlighter for VS 2010? I am a computer science instructor and would like to be able to use it in the classroom. Thanks.

I apologize for the delay of next release, as I have a very short time dedicated to this project. Anyway, I do plan to work on a the VS2010 integration but in a new highlighter plugin that will provide more flexibility to add new file extensions, new keywords, and manage several languages. Basically, I'm also maintaining NShader, another syntax highlighting system for HLSL/GLSL shader languages that is logically sharing 95% of code with AsmHighlighter, and It's a pain to maintain both plugins, as they require almost the same capabilities... Stay tuned. I'm going to see if this can be done in the next days.

Thanks for all your work on the excellent AsmHighlighter and I look forward to using the version for VS 2010 when it is completed.

Also thanks for your quick response to my post.

Hi alex,

I've setup the extension for VS2010. Tell me if you want me to send it to you or whatever :-)

Best Regards,

Fabio

Hi Fabio thanks! The fact is migrating AsmHighlighter to VS2010 was not the biggest issue. I did it already for NShader plugin and that was pretty straightfoward. My main concern now is to provide a single Highlighter plugin with which you will be able to manage extensions, keywords, even new language support.... without having to modify the plugin source. This is what I'm working on now, even If it's far from being a full time job, but be sure It will be released soon. So for this reason, AsmHighlighter is not going to be updated with VS2010. AsmHighlighter home page will advise to redirect you to the new plugin as soon as it is available.

Sorry, I was too busy to dedicate enough spare time on this migration. I'm going to see if I just can quickly upgrade AsmHighlighter to VS2010 without going to the major refactoring I was expecting...

Ok, I have just released a version of AsmHighlighter working under VS2010. You can download it from HERE

It's a quick migration so not sure it's bug free, but at least, it's working on my box with instruction size support as well.

Hi Alexandre!

Thanx for this Version..

I cant  get it to work. Its properly installed in VS2010 Proffessional (German Version). Shown in Extensions Dialog.

If i open an ASM-File, there's no Highlightning. If i use the keys ctrl-k-ctr-d there's a message that this instruction is already in use by another thing.

Theres nothing other installed.

Got any idea??

Thanx in advance

It's hard to evaluate what's going wrong on your machine.

One thing that is required is to have VC++ 2010 Runtime installed.

There is also one issue : AsmHighlighter is not working from a user domain profile (you have to edit files manually and change the codebase in pkgdef sources)
